Gorman-Rupp High and Dry Design Eliminates Costly Repairs
High and Dry Design Eliminates Costly Repairs for Downtown Toronto Building
Challenge
A downtown Toronto commercial building faced frequent downtime and escalating maintenance costs due to failing submersible sewage pumps. The system required a reliable solution capable of handling 300 USGPM at 69’ TDH with a 12’ static suction lift—without costly repairs or replacements.
Solution
After a detailed site visit and piping analysis, John Brooks recommended and supplied a Gorman-Rupp 2 ½” Solids-Handling Super T-Series (T3A3S-B/F) pump with a full-diameter impeller. The system included:
- Vertical V-belt drive operating at 1850 RPM
- 15 HP TEFC motor for standard, readily available operation
- Gorman-Rupp Air Release Valve and Suction/Discharge Gauge Kit for optimized performance and monitoring
This “high and dry” design keeps all moving components out of the wet well, reducing the risk of failures and simplifying maintenance.
Technology Utilized
Gorman-Rupp Super T-Series Solids-Handling Pump
- Available Configurations: 2”–10” sizes, up to 3,400 GPM, heads up to 168’. Pumps 4” and larger handle 3” spherical solids.
- Self-Priming Design: Pumps can be mounted high and dry, eliminating long lead times for specialty motors and reducing costly repairs.
- Durable, Easy-to-Maintain System: Quick inspection and maintenance with no special tools required, minimizing downtime and total cost of ownership.
Results
- Reliable Operation: Continuous, trouble-free performance since installation
- Zero Downtime: Eliminated pit entry and blockage clearing
- Simplified Maintenance: High-and-dry design allows safe, fast inspections and service
Conclusion
By choosing the Gorman-Rupp Super T-Series pump, this Toronto building achieved a reliable, cost-effective, and low-maintenance pumping solution—demonstrating how proper system design and durable equipment can prevent downtime and reduce operational costs.
